What different roles are there in Valorant ?

A critical question to consider before deciding which agent you will be in the game is: What is your role? VALORANT has four classes (or roles as called in the game). You may be a Sentinel, Controller, Initiator, or Duelist, among other things.

The good news is that, if performed correctly, each job has the potential to influence the game.
Sentinels, Controllers, Initiators, and Duelists are the four general agent positions in the game. From these jobs, more specialized roles like Support, In-Game Leader, Entry Fragger, Lurker, Recon, and Crowd Control are established. Each position is determined by the talents that each agent brings to the contest.

  • The importance of agent select

Before a match begins, players will have the ability to choose the agent they want to play, referred to as agent pick in-game. Putting together a well-balanced team of agents will greatly improve your chances of winning a match.

Sage was the most popular agent in the VALORANT closed beta, and the agent is expected to be a must-have in competition.Having two Sentinels, Sage and Cypher, is considered crucial for a team in the current meta of VALORANT. Sage is especially valuable because of her ultimate ability, which allows the resurrection of teammates who have been killed, in addition to the ability to heal, whereas Cypher’s tripwires and spy camera can provide valuable insight into an opponent’s movements, essentially creating areas of control at low risk.
A balanced squad consists of two Sentinels, one Controller, one Initiator, and one Duelist. While it may appear that having only one Duelist on a balanced team is counterproductive, the broad collection of talents included in the other roles overcomes the benefit an extra Duelist may provide to a team’s overall potential.

  • Duelist

Duelists are VALORANT’s offensive experts, having talents that allow them to be aggressive and self-sufficient when generating opportunities to combat opponents. Jett, Phoenix, Raze, Reyna, Yoru, and Neon are the current Duelists in the game.

Duelists are expected to be aggressive by their teammates and are the stars of the squad with the most kills. They will often play the position of Entry Fragger, being the first player to enter a contested part of the map and conduct high-risk, high-reward acts to gain an edge. Due to the volatility of the Duelist duty, which causes players to experience a feast-or-famine scenario in performance, teams should assign these roles to teammates with good aim.Duelists in VALORANT should harness the supporting skills of Sentinels, Controllers, and Initiators to maximize their own ability to overwhelm opponents, as the gameplay is more team-focused than in CS:GO.

  • Initiator

Through the use of their talents, initiates excel in gathering information and controlling the actions of opponents.

In VALORANT, there are four Initiators: Sova, Skye, Breach, and KAY/O. Sova and Skye utilize their powers to do reconnaissance in an area, whilst Breach and KAY/O employ their crowd control abilities to disrupt foes in their route.VALORANT vs. CSGO: A Professional’s Opinion
Because of Sova and Skye’s talents, they can recon the regions of the map where opponents may be competing and relay this knowledge to their team. Breach and KAY/O, on the other hand, employ their skills to flush out and disrupt opponents from a safe distance. While Initiators are in their own category, they may easily fill the protective roles of a Sentinel or Controller, or they might adopt a more proactive position like a Duelist.

  • Controller

Controllers are excellent at using smoke screens to control the battlefield. As they establish possession of a region, their powers block their opponents’ sightlines while offering protection for comrades. VALORANT presently has four controllers: Astra, Brimstone, Omen, and Viper.

As previously stated, the key role for Controllers is the ability to control sightlines on a map; this is vital in VALORANT since it limits an enemy’s ability to engage a teammate from a favorable position.Controllers like Viper and Brimstone would often employ their skills prior to a team executing a plan on a bombsite, following the Duelists on their team as a Secondary Entry Fragger once their smoke screens have been deployed.
Controllers can also play the role of Lurkers, who are in charge of protecting against enemy flanks or conducting their own. The agent known as ‘Omen’ is a skilled Lurker with the ability to teleport to any point on the map, making him especially lethal when breaching the enemy’s backlines.

  • Sentinel

Agents that perform the Sentinel role are trustworthy, comforting, and self-assured. Sentinels are defensive experts with the ability to command the battlefield, protect danger regions, and provide useful services such as healing. Cypher, Killjoy, Chamber, and Sage, four Sentinels, have moved into VALORANT. Sentinels either wander around the region to gather fresh information or, when defending, anchor to a bombsite to slow down opponents so that teammates may assist. Because of the passive nature of Sentinel agents’ powers, most players assume the role of In-Game Leader (IGL). The IGL is in responsible of orchestrating team maneuvers around the map, developing the overall team strategy, and ensuring teammates properly communicate opponent locations.Sentinels are not expected to perform as well on the scoreboard as their Controller and Duelist counterparts; rather, their major purpose is to allow their comrades to stand out as they secretly execute their jobs.
